Farm Mechanization in agriculture will help in increasing productivity and reduce the cost of cultivation and also enable the farmer to complete farming operations in time. Farm mechanization in the State is accentuated by the shortage of agricultural labor due to the increased migration of rural workers to urban areas. Mechanization possibility is strongly influenced by the farm size, cost of farm labour, labour shortage at peak times of demand is a serious problem faced by farmers, and machines and energy a serious problem faced by farmers. However, in the Medak district, the majority of the farmers come under small and marginal categories and their land holdings are less than two hectares, the farming system continues to utilize manual power and animal power. The age-old concept of sharing farm implements and tools among farmers in a village has been severely eroded. Purchase and use of hi-tech farm machinery are not viable and affordable to the small and marginal farmers, there is a necessity to provide a way for them to use farm machinery. In order to bring more land under cultivation and to improve productivity per unit area it is necessary to introduce other sources of power like tractors, and power tillers under the custom hiring center located at KVK

Objectives of CHC’s:

To make available various farm machinery/ implements to small and marginal farmers.
To offset the adverse economies of scale due to high cost of individual ownership.
To improve mechanization in places with low farm power availability.
To provide hiring services for various agricultural machinery/implements applied for different operations.
To expand mechanized activities during cropping seasons in large areas especially for small and marginal farmers.

The following implements are available at KVK Tuniki Medak district on rental basis under a custom hiring center by farmers.

1. MB Plough

This is used for primary tillage operations. It cuts trash buries it completely in the soil. It is also used for turning green manure crop compost, FYM, etc into the soil

2. Cultivator

It is used for loosening the soil on the field, and removing weeds and parasites.

3. Rotavator

Rotavator is used for seedbed preparation within one or two passes, suitable for removing and mixing of residual of maize cotton wheat sugarcane, etc in the soil, thereby improves soil health, fuel and cost

4. Disc Harrow

It is used to till the soil where crops are to be planted. it is also used to chop up unwanted weeds or crops remainders

5. Tractor Operated Bed Maker

Raised bed maker is used for making raised for vegetable cultivation favoring water drainage , less risk of vegetable diseases, etc

6. Seed Cum Ferti Drill

For sowing of seeds like maize, groundnut, jowar, green gram, Bengal gram etc

7. Manual Seed Drill

For sowing of seeds like maize, groundnut, jowar, green gram, Bengal gram etc

8. Drum Seeder

It is used for direct seeding of pregerminated paddy seeds directly into wetland field to reduce the cost of labour , time, etc .

9. Plastic Mulch Sheet Laying Machine

The purpose of a plastic mulch laying machine is to perform operations like bund making drip line laying, mulch sheet laying, and soil covering in one pass to reduce the labour cost and time

10. Tractor Operated Slasher

The purpose of slasher is to slash paddy stems after harvesting with a combine harvester. It is also used for slashing pasture toppings rough tough shrubs and cutting tall weed plants/grass up to 25mm
